Fights and Love in Relationships – Tensions and Tenderness

Overview: This article explores why do couples fight so often in relationships and how true love overcomes conflict with patience and understanding.

Why do couples fight so much in a relationship? Are they really meant to be together if all they experience are arguments, resentment, avoidance, and unpleasant  emotions?

I don’t think so. Happy and successful relationships are built on open and honest conversations, and fights should be the exception - rare moments that don’t overshadow the peace and love in the family.

Over the years, I’ve learned that maturity and experience help us understand one fundamental thing: conflict, when it becomes routine, slowly destroys real emotional intimacy, trust, and warmth between two people.

🟦 Communication That Saves a Relationship

Communication - especially active listening - is the cornerstone of every healthy, happy, and long-lasting soulmate relationship. It doesn’t just mean talking, but doing it with love, gentleness, and care. It means truly listening, showing genuine interest, and asking, “Tell me more.”

When communication is nurtured over the years, two people become true soulmates. They finish each other’s sentences, understand each other’s thoughts and feelings without words, and become a soul-to-soul communion.

(Sandra, 68 years old, Portland, Oregon) « Let me share a moment from my own life. My partner and I have been together for over 40 years. Even after all these years, it’s the everyday, small gestures that keep our bond strong and meaningful.

Just recently, I was outside tidying up the garden, folding an old tarp I had used to cover the plants. As I was about to put it away, he came out and said, “Oh, I was just about to do that,” and gently took over folding it - something that had been left there for weeks.

It’s these simple acts of kindness and understanding that nurture patience and care in a soulmate relationship, helping it stay alive through the years.

These little moments are what keep a relationship alive, building patience and understanding as well as care for each other. »

🟦 Why do couples fight so often in relationships?

From my own experience and observations spanning over 60 years, I want to share some important reasons:

1️⃣ Differences between two people
Relationships are built between two completely different human beings. No matter how much you have in common, people have different personalities and perspectives. These differences can cause conflict, especially if communication isn’t handled with real emotional intimacy and tact.

2️⃣ Stress and daily fatigue
Sometimes we bring home stress from work or external problems.. If you’ve had a bad day, patience decreases, and you may act less kindly and more irritably towards each other.

3️⃣ The temptation to hurt
When you know each other very well, you know exactly where the other person is sensitive. Sometimes, out of frustration, it’s tempting to hit those points.

4️⃣ The difficulty of living together
Living 24/7 with someone, sharing your body, mind, and soul can be challenging. Marriage or a long-term relationship is the hardest task you will ever undertake.

5️⃣ Lack of patience and cooperation
When there are differences of opinion about raising children, money, or household chores and no cooperation, tensions rise quickly.

6️⃣ Immaturity and selfishness
The need to always be right, selfishness, and lack of emotional maturity can harm relationships.

7️⃣ Low self-esteem
It plays a huge role. Low self-esteem can cause you to attract the wrong partners or stay in toxic relationships that inevitably lead to pain.

🟦 What I have learned

Despite all these challenges, I believe a relationship worth having can overcome fights and misunderstandings if both partners are willing to work on communication, listen to each other, and truly love one another.

It’s not easy, but it’s worth it. Because nothing can replace the warmth and safety that true soulmates offer.

And if I’m honest, after all these years, I’m still learning to be patient, forgive, and love even in difficult moments. Because true love doesn’t mean the absence of fights; it means the strength to overcome them together.

🌸 Finding your soulmate isn’t about chasing someone.

It’s about becoming the version of yourself that naturally attracts the right kind of emotional intimacy. Every heartbreak, every wrong turn, has been preparing you for something deeper.

The truth is, most people don’t fail at love - they just look in the wrong places, or with the wrong mindset. Finding Your Soulmate means shifting your focus and learning where - and how - to connect with someone truly aligned with you.
